Provideniya is a Russian town situated in Buhta Provideniya (Provideniya Bay) in the northeastern part of the Chukotka region, which is in turn the northeasternmost region of the Russian Far East.It was a former Soviet military port, sited on a fjord sheltered from the Bering Sea, with a population down from 8,000 before the demise of the USSR. High-sprung transports connect the town's concrete slabbed front street with outport settlements along the fjord. There is a technical school, one functioning cinema, a post office, a remarkably good musem of Chukotka history and culture, and a new bakery complex although the port facilities for the town are mainly decripit.
