Atyrau is a city in Kazakhstan. This city was formerly known as Guryev, Soviet Union. Atyrau is the capital of the Atyrau Province.The city was founded as Jaizk in 1645 by a Russian trader named Guriev, whose name the city bore from 1708 until 1992. It was a Russian military outpost due to its strategic location.
